How to Boil Eggs
There are two ways to boil eggs: hard-boiled and soft-boiled. Each method is different and results in the eggs coming out differently. Here is a guide on how to boil eggs.
Hard-Boiled Eggs
One trick to hard-boiled eggs is the type of egg that you use. Eggs that are fresh are typically harder to peel. So, if you are planning on hard-boiling eggs, you want to buy your eggs about 7-10 days ahead of time. Hard-boiled eggs are the easiest to peel after they have cooled. As for storing hard-boiled eggs, you can do so safely for a week in the fridge as long as they have not been peeled. If they have been peeled, you need to eat them that same day.
To make hard-boiled eggs, use a 2-quart saucepan and only place one layer of eggs in the pan. You want to add enough water so that eggs are covered completely in water. Cover the pan, boil, remove from heat, allow to stand for 15 minutes and drain. Immediately put the eggs in a cold water bath and let set for several minutes. Then, just peel them by carefully tapping them on a hard surface around the shell. To help get the shell off easily, run the eggs under cold water while peeling.
Soft-Boiled Eggs
Soft-boiled eggs will have a yolk that is warm and runny and whites that are firm. These eggs are perfect for eating right from the shell.
To make eggs that are soft-boiled, use a 2-quart saucepan and only place one layer of eggs in the pan. Fill the pan with cold water so that eggs are completely submerged, plus an extra inch. Bring the eggs to a boil over medium-high heat. Turn the heat off, cover and allow to sit for about 2 minutes. Take the eggs out of the water and serve them right away.
